Good advice. From personal experience, I've found that increasing the temperature of the aquarium speeds up the life cycle of the ich. Adding aquarium salt can help treat/prevent ich and is less harsh/stressful than medicine. Medicines can crash filters and you may have to cycle the tank all over again; it is recommended to have a separate hospital/quarantine tank if you want to medicate fish.

Don't worry too much if you will be out for like the weekend, or a few days. Fish don't need to be fed every single day and missing a few days for a vacation won't kill them. When fish (like koi) are shipped very long distances (like internationally or across several states), the shippers don't feed the fish several days or even a week before the shipping. This ensures that the water will be as clean as possible during shipping (un-fouled water means less stress and chance of disease on the fish) when the fish is in a bag filled with only some water and oxygen. Then at the new destination, the owner is advised not to feed for the first day or two while the fish adjusts to the new environment and water parameters.

The most important factor in keeping fish is the water conditions, then comes diet.

There are also automatic feeders you could buy at the store that can feed the fish specific amounts of food each day.

Why not switch to pellets? They usually stay a regular shape/size and you won't really have to worry about tiny crumbs at the end. You can choose floating pellets or sinking pellets. Some people with fancier types of goldfish stick with sinking pellets since those types of goldfish can get swimbladder problems easier if they gulp up extra air while grabbing food.

Hi,

I found this very interesting. Very well written I must say as well. Brings out the emotions that would push you to actually keep rabbits as pets.

I had a query: I have two rabbits (male and female) and also have a very large open (enclosed) space where they are free to roam about. I wanted to add 2 hare. Do you think its ok to do that? I've heard that hares and rabbits don't go well together.

Would appreciate if I get my answer by this Saturday (6th Nov 10) since I plan to go to the market to buy the hare on Sunday.

Oh, yes, I am from Kolkata, India.

Keep it up

Great tip, I will definitely look into these pellets because I end up throwing away more food than my budgie actually eats.
He is such a picky eater. Strangest budgie alive, won't touch any fruits or vegetables, so I believe these pellets will make up for anything he is missing in his diet.
Thank you!
