Many birds will live longer in captivity than they would in the wild. Feed your bird a healthy diet, give him plenty of cage space, take good care of him and you will have your pet for many, many years.

Since many birds can live a long time, it is wise to learn as much as you can about your particular bird. Buy a book about your bird. Ask questions at the store where you purchased your bird.

Be very careful and keep your bird away from houseplants. A lot of houseplants and trees can be poisonous to your bird. Keep your bird away from cooking fumes, cigarette smoke, cleaning solvents, burnt Teflon and insect sprays.

Benefits of clipping wings

If your bird is going through their spring molt, or even if he isn't, you can have his or her wings clipped. This will keep him from flying around. It can make him easier to tame, and keep him from being injured if he flies indo a window, wall or out the front door.
