Why do some hamsters fight?

Hamsters in the wild are loners. Free-living hamsters seek out a territory for themselves and defend it vigorously against intruders. A female, for example tolerates a mate only for mating, and then drives him away. In three to four weeks, when the babies are independent, she will then drive them away also. This doesn't mean that a hamster doesn't make a good pet. A well cared for hamster can become quite tame, once they get comfortable with you and their surroundings.
